Porcelain veneers can be accomplished three different ways.
1). No preparation of the tooth structure.
2). Minimum preparation of the tooth structure.
3). Preparation of the tooth structure.
The above three procedures can also be combined in the mouth ( ex. - no prep. next to a crown prep., or a minimum prep. next to a prepped tooth).
